Dolce & Gabbana plans to launch a collection of jewelry
Dolce & Gabbana plans to launch a collection of jewelry with prices as high as $20,000 or so for a necklace, a sign that the fashion house has been refocusing its efforts on the high end of the luxury industry.
Using diamonds, rubies, black jade and freshwater pearls, the handmade gold and silver pieces are new to the Milan based fashion brand, which understood that expensive products are selling best while the so-called “aspirational” market struggles.
The jewelry style will be familiar to anyone who has followed the brand’s recent ad campaigns. Using charms that reflect Italian superstitions and values, the necklaces, bracelets, rings and earrings have the appearance of vintage pieces that have been collected and passed down in a family.
To create one line of the lines of jewelry, the designers purchased from a collector hundreds of hand-painted ceramic charms made in the 19th century by Portuguese monks.
