The “Hotel Chimera” capsule collection, designed by Elena Salmistraro for Cedit – Ceramiche d’Italia (a Florim brand) has been included in the ADI Design Index 2022, the prestigious publication issued by the ADI, or Industrial Design Association, featuring the best new contributions to the Italian design scene each year.

The ceramic work becomes one of the 248 selected (category “social design”) to compete for the Premio per l’Innovazione Adi Design Index 2022 award for innovation, and for preselection for the ADI Compasso d’Oro 2024.

Created by artist and designer Elena Salmistraro, who styled the “Chimera” collection for Cedit (a Florim brand) in 2020, the capsule collection is a composition of 80 different fragments, each of which is a ceramic artwork in its own right. Each piece, numbered and individually signed by the artist, was sold at auction and the proceeds were donated to support the “Doppio senso. Percorsi tattili alla Collezione Peggy Guggenheim” (“Double Meaning: a Tactile Journey through the Peggy Guggenheim Collection”) project, launched by the Venetian museum to encourage access to the world of art and addressed mainly to blind and visually impaired visitors, although open to all under an inclusive approach. The project, which suffered a long interruption due to Covid, got under way again this year, with events restarting during October.

The “Hotel Chimera” capsule collection indissolubly merges design and sustainability and promotes a message of benefit and social good perfectly in line with the values of the Cedit brand and Florim’s commitment as a Benefit Corporation with B Corp certification since 2020.

“We are very proud to be included in such an important publication containing products and projects chosen for their design. We have created and built up a wonderful synergy with Elena Salmistraro, reflected in a project that reaches beyond design to support art and culture. This selection recognises the expressive vivacity of a talented designer, and Florim’s innovative drive and its focus on social responsibility as also enshrined in its Bylaws,” commented Claudio Lucchese, Chairman of Florim S.p.A. SB.

“I am very happy to be able to work with Florim,” states Elena Salmistraro, “in a stimulating partnership that has enabled me not only to express my creativity on a ceramic surface but also to transform design into an inclusive experience. This coveted accolade is now added to the one received for the “Chimera” collection, and I am double honoured in the light of the values embodied in this work.”
