German Design Council announced Interior Innovation Awards at imm cologne

It may be less than a decade old, but Germany’s Interior Innovation Award is becoming an Oscar of the furnishings sector. The German Design Council announced the winners of the 2011 award, and showcased them in a special exhibit at imm cologne (18-23 January). Dubbed the “Boulevard of Innovations,” the exhibition included such products as Jean-Marie Massaud’s Flow armchair (manufactured by MDF Italia) Patrick Jouin’s Lou chair (Roset Mobel), and Tobias Grau’s Fall Star floor lamp.

For the first time the Interior Innovation Award 2011 competition was opened to companies that are not imm cologne exhibitors. Eligible products included residential and office furniture, building fittings, kitchen and bath products, lighting, and textiles. Additionally, a selection of 30 prototypes by up-and-coming designers were chosen in the council’s 
[D3] Contest, a program that spotlights young talents. A separate exhibition for [D3] is also on display at the show to offer the young designers a forum to present their ideas to an international audience.
