Creative Encounter spotlights the talented artists who were given carte blanche to create bespoke artworks for the luxury brand’s destinations.
Cheval Blanc has since the inauguration of its first Maison in 2006 cultivated a delicate alchemy between local architecture and timeless elegance, craftsmanship and contemporary inspirations, transforming each Maison into a living gallery.
The new video series Cheval Blanc “Creative Encounters” spotlights the talented artists who were given carte blanche to create bespoke artworks for the Maison’s destinations.
These artists include internationally-renowned architect Frank Gehry, whose masterpieces include such marvels as the Fondation Louis Vuitton, the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao and the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. In the first video in the new series, he shares insights into his creative process and reveals secrets behind the emblematic artwork at Cheval Blanc Paris, the striking horse sculpture that graces the lobby.
“I love the idea of the horse. It’s so complicated to create one with all these legs and tail. That’s not what I do as part of my work. I do buildings. I wanted it to be very sculptural and I wanted It up in the air. I like the motion of it and that is active. I knew it’s gonna be used for a hotel lobby so a quiet sedentary horse didn’t seem appropriate. This one was a challenge … I think getting the sense of movement and make it feeling real like it was moving… In architecture I was trying to express movement because everything is moving … right? I’ve been worried about that and working on that for maybe 30 plus years, so I was ready for the horse,” – Frank Gehry
“Embark on an inspirational voyage through the eyes of Frank Gehry in our inaugural video.
