Fendi fetes 25th anniversary of Baguette with dazzling fashion show in New York.
Fendi celebrated the 25th anniversary of its Baguette bag with a very special fashion show during New York Fashion Week on September 9. More than an anniversary, the fashion show was both a tribute to the iconic bag and to the city where its special place in the history of fashion and pop culture was cemented, New York.
Inspired by the history of the iconic accessory and by the spirit of an equally iconic place, the new Fendi wardrobe interprets the Baguette in myriad manners. The clothing and accessories reflect the maker as much as the unmistakable object, plus of course the immense pleasure of the wearer.
In its different iterations the Fendi Baguette bag becomes utilitarian or ornamental thanks to plays with shapes and materials. It appears on parkas and gaiters, or covers gloves, hats, skirts and sweaters, joined by exciting new takes on the bag itself.
A sense of hyper-luxe and glamour pervades the new Fendi Baguette interpretations: the gaiters are crafted from silk satin and the parka is in glossy leather, while stratified sequins add an art deco allure.
With this collection, the timeless sophistication of the storied Italian fashion house reconnects with a seminal moment in its history.
“It was a special day when I designed this bag; the stars aligned. The horoscope said it was a Fendi day.” – Silvia Venturini Fendi, Artistic Director of Accessories and Menswear, Fendi.
“I didn’t want to do a traditional ‘collection’ for the anniversary. Rather it’s a celebration of a time, of the moment the Baguette became famous. I relate that time to a sense of freedom in excess and fun – both qualities the Baguette possesses.” – Kim Jones, Artistic Director of Womenswear, Fendi.
