Jimmy Choo x Timberland is back; in celebration of the second instalment of this exclusive collaboration, we explore the inspiration and creative forces behind the highly anticipated new collection.
The latest Jimmy Choo x Timberland collaboration sees Timberland’s iconic Original Yellow Boot re-imagined through the luxurious lens of Jimmy Choo creative director Sandra Choi, alongside Harlem’s Fashion Row and designer Shanel Campbell. The result? A reinvented classic.
“I love to mix it up by getting together with interesting creative minds, combining our DNA to create a beautiful and surprising designs.” – SANDRA CHOI, JIMMY CHOO CREATIVE DIRECTOR.
Offered in hot pink velvet or finished with graffiti-inspired script, these remastered classics are a bold new proposition.
Following the runaway success of the first Jimmy Choo x Timberland collaboration in 2020, it was obvious that, when the American outdoor brand and global luxury house joined forces to create a second exclusive capsule collection this year, expectations were high.
While the duo might appear to be an unlikely brand pairing, they do have one special thing, or place, in common.
New York is particularly meaningful to both Timberland and Jimmy Choo, and so the city served as the inspiration for their second collaboration. Timberland’s iconic Original Yellow Boot is synonymous with New York and was central to the distinctive hip hop aesthetic that was born in the city during the 1990s. Elsewhere, Jimmy Choo has been inextricably linked with the city’s fashion scene since being immortalised on screen in Sex And The City. Therefore, the latest instalment of Jimmy Choo x Timberland sees this utilitarian classic reimagined through the glamorous lens of Jimmy Choo’s creative director Sandra Choi.
Working together with Harlem’s Fashion Row – a New York-based agency that provides opportunities for emerging Black and Latinx creatives – and designer, artist and New York-native Shanel Campbell, Jimmy Choo x Timberland brought a new dimension to their partnership this time around.
Campbell’s work explores the Black Experience in America, and her invaluable insight – combined with Jimmy Choo’s signature style of daring and confident glamour – resulted in a unique fusion that celebrates the creative spirit of the city and culminates in the total reinvention of a cult classic.
The capsule comprises seven styles, spanning men’s and women’s boots, including hot pink velvet boots with transparent soles, two classic nubuck boots with a graffiti-inspired Jimmy Choo logo script, a black boot with a Swarovski crystal embellished cuff and a thigh-high black leather harness boot with a dual styling function and, the hero style, a heeled version of the iconic Timberland 6-inch boot covered entirely in Swarovski crystals.
The campaign, like the collection, is a celebration of the New York’s pioneering creative community. Homegrown stars Justine Skye – a musician and actress – and Pie’rre Bourne – a rapper and producer – model this collection of reinvited icons on a New York rooftop, while the city itself serves as the perfect backdrop for the designs it inspired.
