French visual artist Raphaël Barontini, 36 years of age, produced 30 works during his LVMH Métiers d’Art residency, which took place between December 2019 and July 2020 at the Heng Long tannery, in Singapore.
The LVMH Métiers d’Art artistic residency program, directed by Léa Chauvel-Lévy, was formed to use the raw materials and know-how of an industry-leading manufacturer as sources for a major artistic project. It is also about stimulating a spirit of creativity and innovation among the artisans themselves, by bringing them face to face with an artist’s vision.
To celebrate Raphaël Barontini’s LVMH Métiers d’Art residency, which took place in 2020 at the Heng Long crocodile leather tannery in Singapore, the works stemming from this 5th residency are to be exhibited in Paris between 27 March and 30 April 2021 at the Studio des Acacias, in partnership with Mazarine Group with the support of Mariane Ibrahim Gallery.
Heng Long tannery, in Singapore is renowned for its exceptional expertise and know-how in the tanning and finishing of crocodile leather. Like the previous residencies, the works created by Raphaël Barontini are the subject of a book published by RVB Books, entitled “Soukhos”.
Raphaël Barontini is a 36 years old plastic artist graduated from the Beaux-Arts of Paris and from the Hunter College of Art of New York. His work of “creolisation of pictures” has been exposed by numerous museums and galleries throughout the world, especially through remarkable performances in the USA, in Savannah, Fort Worth, or very recently in Chicago.
Studio des Acacias is a mythic studio that has hosted a succession of legendary artists. The Studio is now a space for interdisciplinary creation and a place for discussion, visibility and promotion, for the new contemporary scene as a whole. A virtual tour of the exhibition will be available on the website www.studiodesacacias.com.
