Madonna’s eye-catching bustier with gold sequins and black nipple tassels was taken home for an impressive £45,000 ($72,000).
The tailored black and gold corset by Trashy Lingerie – whose clientele include Anna Nicole Smith, Dolly Parton and Paris Hilton – was worn by the pop legend with fishnet stockings on her 1987 Who’s That Girl world tour.
It was one of many visually impressive outfits selected by stylist and costume designer Marlene Stewart for Madonna’s first world tour twenty-four years ago.
The bustier was one of 517 items of celebrity memorabilia from stars including Marilyn Monroe, Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley and Princess Diana.
Other Madonna items which exceeded pre-auction estimates included a signed copy of herrisqué, 1992 Sex book which was valued at £500 – £750 ($800 – $1,200) but went for £2,000 ($3,200) and a recording of the song Simon Says with her band Emmy and the Emmys which was expected to fetch £400-£500 ($600 – $800) but made £750 ($1,216).In total the 23 items of Madonna memorabilia made over £62,000 ($100,000).
The Julien’s Auctions, Legends sale took place last week following a six and half week tour around China stopping at cities including Shanghai and Beijing. Held at the the Ponte resort in Macau it was expected that the collection would be a particular hit with Chinese buyers.
