For more than a century, The OWO (formerly the Old War Office) was closed to the public, designed to keep people out and its secrets in. The OWO is a new center for living, entertainment, and fine dining in the very heart of London. Renovated, remodelled, and reconfigured as London’s first Raffles Hotel and Residences, The OWO offers 120 guest rooms and suites and 85 residences, including a super luxurious penthouse, nine restaurants and three bars.

Closed to the public for over a century, the former Old War Office in Whitehall, London, has undergone a remarkable transformation. This historic building, once shrouded in secrecy, has now opened its doors as The OWO, a luxurious hotel and residential complex that promises to be a landmark destination in the heart of the city.

The OWO, a joint venture between the Hinduja Group and Onex Holding, has breathed new life into this Grade II* listed building, turning it into a center for living, entertainment, fine dining, and relaxation. After a monumental six-year renovation, The OWO has emerged as London’s first Raffles Hotel and Residences, offering 120 guest rooms and suites, 85 residences, nine restaurants, and three bars.

With its rich history and iconic status, The OWO aims to set a new benchmark for luxury living in London. The hotel boasts an array of amenities, including a destination spa led by GUERLAIN and PILLAR, renowned beauty and wellness brands. The private residences within The OWO are seamlessly serviced by the Raffles Hotel, ensuring residents enjoy a truly elevated lifestyle. With access to over 30,000 square feet of amenities, including landscaped gardens, a private dining room, residents’ lounges, gym, wellness suite, cinema, and games room, residents will have every comfort at their fingertips.

To celebrate the completion of this extraordinary project, The OWO Residences has formed a partnership with BOVET 1822, an esteemed Swiss watchmaker. BOVET, founded in London in 1822, holds a special connection to the city, making it a fitting choice for this collaboration. As the Official Timepiece of The OWO, BOVET will gift specially created, handcrafted solid 18K red gold timepieces to the owners of the ten most luxurious residences, including the exceptional penthouse.

Each BOVET timepiece is a work of art, meticulously produced, hand-engraved, and hand-assembled at the Home of BOVET, a 14th-century castle nestled in the Swiss Jura mountains. These timepieces pay homage to The OWO’s unique architectural details, featuring a hand-engraved “egg and dart” motif found throughout the property. The BOVET bow at 12 o’clock is adorned with a marble shell motif, reminiscent of the fireplaces and moldings within The OWO. The dial of each timepiece is intricately patterned after the Rose Ceiling above the Grand Staircase, further connecting the watch to the building’s heritage. Engraved on the back of the case is a profound quote by Winston Churchill: “We Shape Our Buildings, Thereafter They Shape Us,” serving as a reminder of the enduring impact of architecture on our lives.

The partnership between The OWO and BOVET began serendipitously, with their encounter in Monaco during the Formula 1 Grand Prix race. The Hinduja Group, seeking an exceptional timepiece partner for The OWO, found the perfect match in BOVET 1822. Inspired by the building’s rich history and craftsmanship, the BOVET team visited the site to fully grasp its essence. They incorporated the unique handcrafted touches and artistic details into the design of the timepiece, creating a stunning collaboration that bridges the worlds of horology and architectural splendor.

In the BOVET manufacture, where no assembly lines are to be found, every timepiece is touched by the hands of skilled artisans. The OWO Special Edition timepieces are no exception. The 18K red gold cases and bows are meticulously hand-engraved, requiring more than 20 hours of intense craftsmanship.

The OWO’s historical significance cannot be overstated. The Old War Office has played host to influential figures and momentous events throughout its existence. From monarchs and political leaders like Winston Churchill and David Lloyd George to notable individuals like T.E. Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia) and Ian Fleming (creator of James Bond), the building has witnessed history in the making. Its grandeur and significance even inspired Ian Fleming to pen the iconic James Bond series during his time working for Britain’s Naval Intelligence Division. The Old War Office has also served as a backdrop for several James Bond films, further cementing its place in popular culture.

Now, as The OWO, this historic building stands as a testament to the harmonious blend of heritage and modern luxury. The partnership with BOVET 1822 underscores The OWO’s commitment to craftsmanship, attention to detail, and a shared appreciation for the beauty of timeless traditions.

The OWO’s opening marks a new chapter in the life of this extraordinary building. With its transformation into a luxurious hotel and residence, The OWO not only offers a unique and opulent experience to its guests and residents but also pays homage to the building’s storied past. As the city’s first Raffles Hotel, it sets a standard of excellence that befits its location in the heart of London.
