Inspired by the desert. Designed by Cartier. The new cacti-centric Cactus de Cartier.
Rare flowers shimmer in the sand… Cacti occur in a wide range of shapes and sizes. Most cacti live in habitats subject to at least some drought. Many live in extremely dry environments, even being found in the Atacama Desert, one of the driest places on earth. With a new twist on classic sources of inspiration, Cartier reveals the secret beauty of these spiny plants that can only be admired from afar.
First launched in 2016, Cactus de Cartier is a sculptural collection that is imaginative, daring and full of generous volumes with geometric structures, gold domes illuminated by precious dewdrops, corollas of radiant and fresh faceted precious stones or diamonds. The 2017 additions to the collections are more delicate than the jewels unveiled last year. The new collection includes also the Cactus de Cartier wedding band is 18K yellow/white/pink gold, set with 15 brilliant-cut diamonds totaling 0.32 carats.
Look upon these audacious beauties with a new clarity; see them through a jeweller’s eyes as they bloom in twists of gold pricklingwith diamonds. Unexpected curves are overturned, undulating with ripples and twirls, their movement unconfined. At the jeweller’s touch, the gold comes to life with twisting contours, open work and precious, pearly droplets.
“Rebellious and resistant, tempting and haunting, ephemeral and soft flowers made immortal by Cartier. Plant shapes dotted with zesty, succulent gemstone flowers in emerald, chrysoprase or carnelian.
The latest installment of Cartier’s celebrated collection was feted with a rooftop installation at Cartier’s newly renovated Fifth Avenue Mansion. Images from Santa Fe-based photographer Ja Soon Kim were paired with desert-inspired decor, customized jewelry displays, and refreshments. The lighting experience was mirroring a full day—from dawn to dusk—among the desert dunes.
“We’re excited to share one of Cartier’s most imaginative collections with this rooftop installation,” said Mercedes Abramo, Cartier North America president and CEO, in a statement. “The beauty of the Cactus de Cartier collection lies in its stunning simplicity— unique, easy to wear pieces for audacious women everywhere.”
