Pangeos TeraYacht imagined by Lazzarini Design could become Saudi’s First Ever Turtle-Shaped Floating City.
To construct the terayacht — the biggest structure ever built on the planet — an estimated $8 Billion will be needed, with a timeline of approximately eight years.
The Pangeos is an itinerant floating city, comprising various hotels, shopping centers, parks, ship and aircraft ports, and all other facilities needed to house up to 60,000 guests in the middle of the sea.
Lazzarini’s terayacht proposal takes its name from Pangea, the supercontinent that existed millions of years ago during the late Paleozoic and early Mesozoic eras. Translating this into a somewhat futuristic expression, Pangeos extends its length for 550 meters (1,800 ft) and measures 610 meters (2,000 ft) at its widest point — the wings. If realized, the turtle-shaped vessel will become the world’s largest floating structure ever built.
“Pangeos” TeraYacht – the floating city of the future
The Terayacht idea started in the 2009 while the designer Pierpaolo Lazzarini conceived a giga yacht structure capable to host an entire city. At the moment, Pangeos is just a concept, but it’s starting to his way to become something more than a computer animation.
The conception of a similar sizes’ vessel, involves the realization of a specific shipyard/dam infrastructure, that floods levitating the terayacht when it will be launched. The imagined area for this first Tera-shipyard needs to be 650 meters wide and 600 meters long, with direct access to the sea.
“Due to a perfect scenario configuration and logistic, we imagined the shipayard to be based in Saudi Arabia,” says Lazzarini Design. The building process starts by dredging one square kilometer of sea for building a circular dam. Once dried the terrain will possible to start preparing the basement area.
The side wings of the floating structure offers 19 private villa and 69 apartments on each side. The lower space, houses 30,000 cells or cluster compartments and provides an unsinkable floating solution for the basement, which is conceived to be realized mainly in steel. 72 terraces are available on the rooftop shell.
Pangeos extends its length for 550 meters (1,800 ft) and measures 610 meters (2,000 ft) at its widest point — the wings. If realized, the turtle-shaped vessel will become the world’s largest floating structure ever built.
The floating city of Pangeos starts from the entrance of the port area to the main square, that extends into a wide terraced villa and subsequently leads to private houses, buildings, and rooftop terraces, with an upper ‘shell’ zone that offers landing of various flying vehicles.
Lazzarini explained: “The virtual spaces of the watercraft can also be purchased under an NFT collection, and users will be able to collect certain content and access in the virtual properties with their credentials.” The same credentials will also work as a property deposit in case of a real construction.
The hull is subdivided in about 30,000 cells.
This space provide an unsinkable floating solution for the basement, which is composed by cluster compartments and connected by corridors. The floating structure, subdivides the spaces in different blocks, and it’s capable to guest up to 60,000 accommodations. The impressive sizes of the Pangeos structure creates an unlimited possibility in terms of layout and facilities.
Lazzarini Pangeos is equipped with 9 HTS engines. Each full electric motor is capable of 16,800 hp and is powered by various in-board energy sources.
Pushed from a jet drive transmission, the tera-structure will be able to cruise at a speed of 5 knots. The solar panels lining the rooftop generate clean energy for the mega floating city. While sailing, the large wings will gain energy from the breaking of the waves and Pangeos will cruise perpetually without emissions around the world.
