Record-breaking Hyatt Capital Gate Hotel

Record-breaking Hyatt Capital Gate Abu Dhabi to become a landmark on the Abu Dhabi skyline

Beginning with 21 December 2011 Hyatt Capital Gate Hotel Abu Dhabi opened its doors. Capital Gate (owned and developed in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, by ADNEC – Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company), has been certified as the ‘World’s Furthest Leaning Manmade Tower,’ by Guinness World Records. Hyatt Capital Gate Abu Dhabi leans a record-breaking 18 degrees (4 times that of Italy’s Tower of Pisa).

The hotel that gained its status as one of the world’s most complex engineering projects is also a part of the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC), the largest conference and exhibition venue in the Middle East. Hyatt Capital Gate Abu Dhabi offers 189 luxury five-star guestrooms and suites occupying the 18th to 33rd floors of the Capital Gate building.

The hotel’s ‘sky lobby’ is suspended 80 metres above the ground on the 18th floor, offering panoramic views of the city. The spa and fitness centre on the 19th floor will include a swimming pool which cantilevers from the side of the building with 270- degree views of the surrounding horizon. Due to unique shape of the tower, each room in the hotel will have a different shape and orientation.

Rayana Spa, Abu Dhabi’s only “sky spa”, is perched on the 19th floor overlooking the city. The Spa offers  “a refreshingly elevated oasis experience” that complements the Fitness Centre, suspended outdoor pool and whirlpool.

The Abu Dhabi’s Capital Gate tower features other innovative construction techniques including the world’s first known use of a ‘pre-cambered’ core, which contains more than 15,000 cubic metres of concrete reinforced with 10,000 tons of steel. The core, deliberately built slightly off centre, has straightened as the building has risen, compressing the concrete and giving it strength, and moving into (vertical) position as the weight of the floors has been added.
