The Krug Maison firmly believes that music can be appreciated by everyone, as can champagne.
Krug luxury champagne house is celebrating a remarkable 2006 year, and the Maison’s unique savoir-faire with a limited-edition three-bottle case that showcases the 2006 harvest – Krug Clos du Mesnil 2006, Krug 2006 and Krug Grande Cuvée 162ème Édition.
Krug uses music as a metaphor to share its expertise with a wider audience.
The 2006 vintage of Krug Clos du Mesnil was presented to the press during a tasting experience enhanced by music, an art form that has been associated with the Maison for many years. The Krug family was one of the first to organize private musical gatherings at their home in Reims in the early 1900s. Many years on, music remains a core component of the Krug identity, which the Krug Champagne Maison has been illustrating through music pairings since 2013.
Cellar Master Julie Cavil plays the role of orchestra conductor. Every year, she auditions more than 400 wines, or “musicians” as she prefers to call them, approaching the composition of each cuvée as though it were a musical masterpiece.

For Krug, music is also a highly-intuitive, universal language that elicits a myriad of sensations and assists in the formation of lasting memories. The key is to forget about the technical aspects and focus on the sensations they inspire. This is precisely what Krug hopes to achieve through music pairing – a tasting experience where music magnifies the pleasures of each Krug cuvée.
Krug Clos du Mesnil 2006 was recently unveiled, alongside Krug 2006 and Krug Grande Cuvée 162ème Édition, during a music pairing experience entitled “From Soloist to Orchestra in 2006”. This exclusive event paid tribute to a remarkable year and to the exceptional vision of founder Joseph Krug.
In musical terms, Krug Clos du Mesnil 2006 is a virtuoso soloist, Krug 2006 an ensemble playing the year’s best music, and Krug Grande Cuvée 162ème Édition – composed around the 2006 harvest with wines from 11 different years – an entire symphony orchestra.
According to thedrinksbusiness.com, “The Champagne boasts an intense golden colour. On the nose, it has, “aromas of citrus, barley sugar, and dried fruits with balance and freshness”, while on the palate it shows, “initial hints of madeleine cake and brioche that give way to notes of pastry, tarte tain, lemon meringue, bitter orange, and some spice”, with a long and intense finish.
Krug Clos Du Mesnil 2006 will also be available in a limited-edition hand-crafted oak case comprising three 75cl bottles of Krug’s creations from the year2006, the Clos du Mesnil together with the Krug vintage 2006 and Krug Grande Cuvée 162ème Édition.
Krug Clos du Mesnil, a very rare Champagne, showcases the unique character of a single plot of Chardonnay, harvested in a single year. This 1.84-hectare (4.5-acre) vineyard, overlooked by the village church, has been protected by walls since 1698. The vineyard is located in the heart of Mesnil-sur-Oger, one of the most iconic villages for Chardonnay in the Champagne region.
