Selfridges invited the world’s couture greats to create an exclusive look or capsule collection and to curate a window display at its flagship location on Oxford Street London.
Each of the 12 of The Masters who shape the fashion landscape is designated as “The Master” of a specific domain: Marc Jacobs is The Master of Mood; Paul Smith, The Master of Inspiration; Azzedine Alaia is The Master of Architecture, Jean Paul Gaultier is The Master of Expression; Dries Van Noten, The Master of the Eclectic; Stella McCartney, The Master of Modernity; Thom Browne, The Master of Showmanship; Rick Owens, The Master of the Elements; Oscar de la Renta, The Master of Elegance; Jun Takahashi, The Master of Subversion; Roberto Cavalli, The Master of Glamour;and Yohji Yamamoto, The Master of Defiance.
The Masters project is celebrating high fashion by honouring the cinema art. Each of the Selfridges window displays will be inspired by a particular film genre, while The Everyman cinema group will set up an in-store theater to screen a selection of films chosen by the Masters.
