Carré H, Arceau Casaque and Arceau Pocket Millefiori watches, the latest timepieces from French luxury house Hermes presented at SIHH 2018, carry within them the inherent tension of time as an object.
Inspired by the board games: Hermes Arceau Casaque 2018
Last month, Hermès organised the 9th Saut Hermès au Grand Palais, an international 5-star (CSI 5*) show jumping competition.
“Let’s play!”: this ninth Saut Hermès at the Grand Palais was a celebration of the horse and of the sport, imbued with a strong spirit of the game, a spirit found on the Arceau Casaque 2018 dressed in electric blue, vertigo green, capucine red and lime..
From dream to reality, from the real to the virtual… At the Saut Hermès at the Grand Palais, horses were not only celebrated in the arena, but also in the stands, in the walkways of the Grand Palais, and in another dimension too: in everyone’s hands, on their smartphones and on the watches. To celebrate the theme of the year, “Let’s play!”, Hermès invited the public to try their hand at H-pitchhh, the horseshoe pitching game. With a life-size movement, throw the horseshoe over the stake.
The story of Hermes Arceau Casaque watch continues in 2018 with a new interpretation. The case of the Arceau Casaque, a design created by Henri d’Origny in 1978, becomes an equestrian manège, an arena marked with curved hoof prints on the sand. The case features the famouse asymmetrical lugs in a shape inspired by stirrups.
For 2018, the equestrian dial is visited by Cavale motif. This year’s bright tones bring to mind the horse-head pawns of a classic French children’s board game.
The dial is crafted using champlevé, lacquer and transfer techniques. Hollows are first created in the dial base, then filled with lacquer. A matt tone-on-tone transferred chevron motif lends the final touch to this colourful composition. Their bright tones bring to mind the horse-head pawns of a classic French children’s board game.
